Port of Bremerton Receives 18th Clean Audit
Bremerton (WA) – For the 18th consecutive year, the Port of Bremerton has received no findings in its audit report from the Washington State Auditor's Office.
The state’s annual audit for 2009 reported that the Port is in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations and its own policies and procedures.
In examining the Port's internal financial practices and activities as a whole, the office found that the Port's controls were "adequate to safeguard public assets." The audit examined the following areas:
- Asset inventory
- Contracts/Lease agreements
- Debt/covenants
- Open public meetings/records retention/access laws
- Real property purchase
- Comprehensive Plan, Promotional Hosting, Economic Development
- Procurement (bidding/prevailing wage)
The auditor also examined the Port's financial statements and controls over federal awards. It reported finding no material deficiencies or significant weaknesses in either area.
The Port of Bremerton, like the other 75 Port districts in Washington State, is a special purpose district whose charter under the law is to promote economic development, to facilitate job creation, to provide for marine and aviation transportation, and to promote tourism.
Its primary business operations are its marinas in Bremerton and Port Orchard, the Bremerton National Airport and its business and industrial parks. These operations are important catalysts for business development as well as contributors to the County’s job and tax base and its tourism industry.
